The Weekend Roundup, 'S'

Friday appears for the week, so it's time again for Tom's meme, The Weekend Roundup. Today's letter prompt is easy - what's not easy is choosing among the hundreds of photos that match the prompt :) Here we go...

My heritage begins in Steubenville Ohio, so here were! I believe the year is 1946, my dad, in the USAAF and Aunt Terry are by the Market Street Bridge over the Ohio River to West Virginia. Built in 1906, it still stands and has that Steel bridge deck that I, and most drivers it seems, do not like to drive over...    

Sunrise also begins with 'S'. I've used this before, but like it enough to use it gain :) This was an early morning flight Atlanta-Philadelphia on a Delta Airlines 727 on Jan. 2, 1981. I believe we were over South Carolina. Note the faint curvature of the earth below at about 6:45 a.m.

Stainless Steel is another 'S', these tanks at the Two Roads Brewing Co. in Stratford Connecticut. My daughter and I took a brewery tour on March 7, one week before the lockdown in the state...

The Strand Theater in neighboring Seymour Connecticut is rather alliterative. And the Sterling Lion Players performed this offbeat play a couple of years ago.

A Favorite. During these times of lockdowns, some have kept their Christmas holiday light on their houses. We have kept ours inside - love the LED lights, snow person and reindeer. this - and takeout meals - are methods of coping. Have a great week all!

The Weekend Roundup, 'F'

Good Friday afternoon! It's again time to participate in Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The sixth letter is featured and my past beckons...Starts with "F." "F"ull. A Favorite.

Begins with 'F' includes Family, and it looks like a Fun Family Full of love! The date is 22 Aug. 1976 where we were in town for the 50th wedding anniversary weekend of my grandparents, Ralph and Agnes. This is at the Holiday Inn in Steubenville Ohio. The Families were of my Father from East Hartford, CT and his sister, my Aunt Terry from Fargo North Dakota. It was a Fun time!

How about a photo from 23 Dec. 1980, Flying from Jacksonville to West Palm Beach Florida we have an early morning look ar the Rolls-Royce RB211 jet engine, this type of engine referred to as a Fanjet or Turbo Fan (really :)

President Ford, the 38th President of the US, has a city park named for him in Omaha, Nebraska. Although he was a House Representative member for Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1949-1973, he was actually born in a house at 32nd & Woolworth in Omaha.

A Favorite. Just a recent look at the center of Ansonia Connecticut at the corner of Bridge and Main Streets. Ths long Southerly sun offers a a soft leafless tree shadow. Have a great week all!

The Weekend Roundup - 'R'

It's time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. I missed last week as we are having a new laminate floor installed in the room where our computers are located - sawdust and blogging don't always work well together...

Radio begins with 'R', and Grandpa's first name was Ralph, so here we are! I'm guessing this to be 1929 based on the notations on the following photo. Ultimately he installed radios in police, sherif and volunteer fire departments in West Virginia and Ohio. Self taught in radio, he could work those heavy units filled with vacuum tubes.

Our children (sadly, not this little any more :) riding on what we called a Red Rider, by Radio Flyer. It is seriously red, as is Cam' sweater and the Mickey tent...

A Favorite. The always lovely Patti captured this bi of flora growing through the curb in downtown Ansonia. I do not expect to see much more of this as winter closes in - so we enjoy what we can as long as we can. Have a great week!

The Weekend Roundup - 'O'

Friday arrives for the week, so it is now time for Tom's Fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The featured letter, the fourth vowel, offers a lot of intriguing opportunities...

Begins with 'O' takes me back to Grandma Agnes and Ralph Villers, my grandparents. This fills the bill as they lived at 1645 Oregon Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio from 1926 until their passing in 1981. We visited on occasion and i went to college nearby. that front porch is such a reminder of years and decades past!

Orange begins with 'O'. This sunset has quite a bit of orange in it.

The wheels on this 1890's Boneshaker bicycle look like the letter 'O' I'd say they roll over continuously (as long as the rider pedals that is :). It's a cool design although I cannot imagine it rides smoothly on its iron wheels!

A Favorite. Nothing fancy, this photo from yesterday just showcases how slowly the foliage is changing color this year - very similar to 2011. But a pleasant view nonetheless. Have a great week all!
