The Weekend Roundup, 'O'

In this odd time, it is always great to return to a favored meme. The Weekend Roundup, hosted by Tom. The fourth vowel is featured...

Given my heritage, the Buckeye State, Ohio, starts with 'O'. Above, I believe this to be 1938 and my dad is standing in front of a covered wagon emblazoned with Fort Ohio. A cursory look brought me to a historic fort near Cumberland, Maryland. Children were dressed up for such occasions it seems in the 1930s...

A year later, my dad is standing in front of the Ohio exhibit at the New York World's Fair in 1939.

About 15 minutes from home is the town of Oxford, Connecticut

Last Winter, Patti captured this lady Cardinal with its Orange beak.

A Favorite was captured last from inside the vehicle (way more than 6 ft. from anybody :), this being the reservoir at Witek Park in Derby CT as a new season begins. Have a happy Easter and a great week!

The Weekend Roundup - 'X'

Friday arrives at the perfect time since it’s time for a post in Tom’s fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. I am happy that the prompt lets us include the letter ‘X’ (as well as beginning with)…

Box has an ‘X’ within, and what correlates better than a cat in a Box. Linus McDonald relaxes in a shoebox - how do they even fit?

I believe there is an ‘X’ in Manhattan’s Times Square at the intersection of Broadway and 45th Street. So these photos include my dad in 1939 and 1946 at that famous 'X'
Excellent includes a recent dinner at our favorite Ansonia restaurant, Rosa Mina on East Main St. My Excellent entree was the Shrimp Fra Diavlo, spicy with lots of cherry peppers sitting on a bed of linguini. Desert was their homemade apple crumb cheesecake. We had to share this excellent after dinner treat!

A Favorite. The always lovely Patti captured the brilliant ruby cardinal on a snowy morning in our back yard. It adds a nice warmth to a cold day...Have a great week all!

The Weekend Roundup - 'R'

It's time again for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. I missed last week as we are having a new laminate floor installed in the room where our computers are located - sawdust and blogging don't always work well together...

Radio begins with 'R', and Grandpa's first name was Ralph, so here we are! I'm guessing this to be 1929 based on the notations on the following photo. Ultimately he installed radios in police, sherif and volunteer fire departments in West Virginia and Ohio. Self taught in radio, he could work those heavy units filled with vacuum tubes.

These photos were printed from negatives in the late 1970s. The radio set in the second and third views is in their dining room at 1645 Oregon Avenue in Steubenville, Ohio

Our children (sadly, not this little any more :) riding on what we called a Red Rider, by Radio Flyer. It is seriously red, as is Cam' sweater and the Mickey tent...

These fireworks over Derby are very Red!

A Favorite. The always lovely Patti captured this bi of flora growing through the curb in downtown Ansonia. I do not expect to see much more of this as winter closes in - so we enjoy what we can as long as we can. Have a great week!
