The Weekend Roundup, 'E'

Friday arrives and I am now ready to participate in Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The second vowel is featured today, and with a bit of creativity, my prompts are revealed...

Starting with 'E' is Expansive. Our son took a business trip recently to the large Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. This is his view from the American 777 setting up for the final approach. With a metro population of 12 million, Rio is also Enormous! Cam will be the first to tell you business trips like his are far from glamorous - but at least there's that view out the window...

Elevation also begins with 'E'. Here is my dad (age 10) at the Continental Divide, I believe in 1938 inColorado. 8262 ft. = 2519 meters above sea level.

I'm guessing on the same trip in 1938, they drove up to the low oxygen summit of Pike Peak outside Colorado Springs. 14,109 ft = 4,300 M. Grandma and dad look ok but hopefully free of the effects of hypoxia at that Elevation...

A Favorite. Nothing fancy but a bird, plump with winter plumage sitting on the forsythia works. Patti captured this avian out the patio sliding door. Have a great week all!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Bird Brunch Bunch

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 takes us back to lunchtime patio doings on this warmish (51°F /51°C) Winter day. A veritable flock of starlings (we think) stopped by to peck at the block of suet on the table. Bon Appétit to our avian friends :)

The Weekend Roundup, 'D'

On a relatively balmy Friday means it's again time for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The fourth letter allows for this week's prompts...

Starts with 'D' includes our neighbor of Derby, Connecticut and its beautiful Derby Public Library. Built in 1902, it was expanded in character in 1999.

A landmark of Derby is the stately Sterling Opera House (1889) at Dusk. The Dark purple sky surrounds the brilliantly lit cupola.

Another 'D' is Doggie, this one looking splendid in its Santa suit...

This was taken on a Drive along northbound Connecticut Route 15 in Woodbridge

A Favorite. The always lovely Patti captured these glowing trees at Osbornedale State Park in Derby. Have a great week all!

The Weekend Roundup, 'C'

Friday means it's time for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The third letter is the featured prompt this week, so I am tending a bit retro this time...

Beginning with 'C' includes this week's focus, Colonial times. This was taken at the Derby Historical Society's 12th night on Jan 6, at the 1698 David Humphrey's house a 5 minute drive from home. There was hearthside Cooking, here a docent in Colonial dress tending the fire...

This is a butternut squash pie being made in Cast Iron Cookware. It was delicious!

Taken in a warmer season, the Elm Street Old Episcopal Cemetery sits across from the David Humphreys house, it began in 1794, and there are headstones from the 18th century up to the early 20th century.

A bit newer is the hubcap from a 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck. The photograph reflection includes the photographer (me)...

A Favorite set of photos was taken Wednesday morning by the always lovely Patti. Yes, they are fox - in our back yard! Despite the seemingly country setting, we are in suburbia. I don't know if it's mating season, foraging or being out in this warm-ish winter. They are dood looking animals, although I'd be a bit happier if they decide they don't like this neighborhood and keep on moving...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Downtown

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 arrives on a warm-ish winter day in the northeast (53°F / 12°C). Of course, that's not warm in the Sonoran desert though :) The Chifrijo restaurant is bathed in shade and in the reflection of Ansonia City Hal is bathed in shadow. I've not eaten there yet, but locals who have tasted the cuisines of Peruv and Costa Rica say it's fabulous, so do need to get there soon. The shadows are the desert!

The Weekend Roundup -'B'

Friday means it is time again for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The second letter of the alphabet offers a wealth of possible prompts, so let us begin...

Begins with 'B' is this Covered Bridge in West Cornwall Connecticut under a very Blue sky. There are three remaining covered bridges in the state. This one dates from 1864 and had a new steel frame installed underneath in 1973 so it still allows vehicular traffic.

Another 'B' is Bird, more specifically, a Blue Jay. This was taken a few winters ago, and with the cold and snowy day, he could even be saying B-r-r-r-r...

Here area few Boats moored at a private dock on the Housatonic River in Shelton, CT

A Favorite this week is Wednesday's sunrise over Ansonia. It was cloudy during the day, so this was the only color in the sky that day. Have a great week, all!

The Weekend Roundup - 'A'

Happy NewYear! The first Friday of 2020 means it is time for Tom's fun meme The Weekend Roundup. The first letter/vowel is fairly easy this week, so here we go...

Beginning with 'A' is Amphicar, a quirky German auto (1961-1967)  that could drive on lamd and water, see the twin props underneath. Neither car nor boat, I've read that many succumbed to rust from being in the water and not a great car on the road. However it is cute and I suppose US Coast Guard compliant - note the floatation devices within...

Here is a cool restored 1931 Ford Model 'A' (hauling an equally cool retro style trailer).

Here is Three Saints Orthodox Church in our town of Ansonia, Connecticut

Here is an Awesome New Year's Day morning over our front year!

Week's Favorite. Quite awhile back, our daughter Allegra delayed her Arrival a week to be born on Patti's birthday, December 29. Since Allegra was in Boston for the weekend, we sang Happy Birthday on New Year's Eve.

I'll add one of my favorite photos of my favorite ladies, Allegra and her mom Patti on the Housatonic River in 2017. Happy Birthday ladies and a great week to all!
