The Weekend Roundup, 'C'

Friday means it's time for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The third letter is the featured prompt this week, so I am tending a bit retro this time...

Beginning with 'C' includes this week's focus, Colonial times. This was taken at the Derby Historical Society's 12th night on Jan 6, at the 1698 David Humphrey's house a 5 minute drive from home. There was hearthside Cooking, here a docent in Colonial dress tending the fire...

This is a butternut squash pie being made in Cast Iron Cookware. It was delicious!

Taken in a warmer season, the Elm Street Old Episcopal Cemetery sits across from the David Humphreys house, it began in 1794, and there are headstones from the 18th century up to the early 20th century.

A bit newer is the hubcap from a 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck. The photograph reflection includes the photographer (me)...

A Favorite set of photos was taken Wednesday morning by the always lovely Patti. Yes, they are fox - in our back yard! Despite the seemingly country setting, we are in suburbia. I don't know if it's mating season, foraging or being out in this warm-ish winter. They are dood looking animals, although I'd be a bit happier if they decide they don't like this neighborhood and keep on moving...

  2. ...Ralph, you started C off with two great Colonial images. I love living history, the David Humphrey house looks like a warm and welcoming place. The Elm Street Old Episcopal Cemetery would be a great place to explore with those early burials. The 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck may be newer, but still 69 years old. Our warm winter has brought out fox in this area too. Thanks as always for sharing, enjoy your weekend Ralph.

  3. I'll have some squash pie, please. I've never had any but I know squash cooked in a cast iron skillet is always good. We have rabbits coming again this mice fall weather. Last year we didn't have a killing freeze, so far not this year either. But I think the alligators are hibernating anyway. Our SIL is playing golf in the morning so I can ask him if they are still out. Both these species are protected because they were here first.
Have a nice HAPPY NEW YEAR. Wev'e been out for six weeks so have missed the holidays. From Dubai and UAE countries to India through the Indian Ocean and down to Cape Town, stopping all along the way.

  5. I enjoyed reading your post. I had to look up Naugatuck Valley as your photos are much like here in Ontario except we are a white world now with the latest snow. We also have fox on our property and like you, thrilling to spy them, but also don't want them too close to the house.

  6. Hi Ralph, I've enjoyed seeing all the "Colonial" pictures this week, I forgot to use that word in my letter "C" post. I think the fox is a beautiful animal. We used to see them more that we do now. Have a good week.
