The Weekend Roundup - 'P'

Friday has arrived, so we are now ready for Tom's fun meme, The Weekend Roundup. The 16th letter offers possibilities  (the 17th fewer alas :) and the archives have found a few for my entry this week...

Beginning with 'P' includes Pond, this one at Witek Park in neighboring Derby, CT. Full disclosure though - this was taken this week, last year. We have not had such color this year, the foliage looking as it has in 2011. So we can enjoy the mix of autumnal colors from 2018.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike also starts with 'P'.  This photo was taken in 1945, the era when the seven tunnels on the Turnpike were single bore. In 1968, two tunnels were bypassed and the other five had a second tunnel added, so the traffic jams before the tunnels that existed in rural Pennsylvania in the Summer became a memory. The ladies are my Grandma Agnes with my Aunt Terry...

This is part of a Holding Pattern. Daughter Allegra captured this upon returning from a high school trip to Paris and London and on her way to landing at JFK airport in New York. The story goes like this: a couple of weeks before she left, we were online looking at the rudimentary flight trackers and on a rainy day, so many of the flights were in massive holding patterns as their arrivals were slowed up due to the weather, Fast forward to her trip home, when she got off the bus when we picked her up, the first thing she said was "Daddy, we were in a holding pattern!". I asked where, and she said "Groton" CT (Long Island Sound). I thought that was so cool where Daddy and daughter had a conversation about a subject that most road warriors hate - holding patterns and late arrivals!

A Favorite. Patti captured this female cardinal on the patio this morning. It was just taken through the sliding door to the patio. Given the lack of a peak on top, we think she was a nestling this Spring - next year the pointy peak will be there. Have a great week all!

  1. ...fall colors can be a mixed bag, it can run hot and cold. Those tunnels on the 'P'ennsylvania Turnpike are amazing. Cloud sure look different looking at them from above. The cardinal shot is 'P'erfect! Thanks Ralph for linking today, I hope to see you next week.

  3. I like colorful fall leaves, but alas they are few and far between here. Mostly they turn brown and fall off. I've been down the Pennsylvania Turnpike a couple of times. I love the 'tunnels'. I also enjoyed seeing the pic of your grandma and aunt. Beautiful bird! Have a wonderful weekend.

  4. I loved your Fall photo of the pretty foliage. We, like Betty, don't get much of that down here around Houston. A lot of trees, the oaks and evergreens mainly, stay green year round. And since we didn't have a freeze or much frost last year so the lawns, flowering, and trees kept their aging green parts. Your young female cardinal picture was interesting too. We dont have cardinals here.
